PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) and PCOD are among the most common hormonal concerns in women of reproductive age. Many women look for an Ayurvedic treatment for PCOS because they want to work on the lifestyle side of the condition. This article explains what Ayurveda and naturopathy can and cannot offer.
PCOS in brief
PCOS can show up as irregular or missed periods, weight gain that is hard to shift, acne, extra facial or body hair, hair thinning and difficulty conceiving. It is linked to insulin resistance and hormone balance. It should be diagnosed by a doctor, usually with blood tests and an ultrasound.
Why lifestyle matters so much
For many women, regular activity, a balanced diet, healthy body weight, good sleep and lower stress make a real difference to symptoms. This is where a structured stay can help: it gives you time, guidance and a routine to take home.
The Ayurvedic view
Ayurveda generally sees PCOS as a disturbance of Kapha and Vata affecting metabolism (Agni) and the reproductive channels. Care focuses on:
- Pathya (diet): fresh, warm, home-style food; less refined sugar, fried and processed food; regular meal times.
- Dinacharya (daily routine): early sleep and waking, regular meals and daily movement.
- Medicines and therapies: herbal medicines and therapies such as Udvartan (dry powder massage) or Panchakarma, chosen by the doctor after examination.
The naturopathy approach
Naturopathy adds diet therapy, hydrotherapy such as hip baths, mud packs on the abdomen, massage, and daily yoga and walking. The aim is better metabolism, regular bowel habits, weight management and less stress.
Yoga for PCOS
Daily yoga and pranayama, adapted to your fitness, help with activity, weight and stress. Teachers will show you a short routine you can keep at home. Our yoga sessions run from 6 to 7 am and 6:30 to 7:30 pm.
What to expect, honestly
- PCOS is a long-term condition. A stay can start changes; keeping them at home is what counts.
- Progress varies between women. No one can promise regular periods, pregnancy or a cure.
- Continue the care of your gynaecologist or endocrinologist. If you take metformin, hormonal pills or fertility treatment, do not stop without their advice.
- Some treatments are not given during menstruation; share your dates when you book.
