Pune is surrounded by hills, and there are many places within a couple of hours that call themselves wellness retreats. They range from resorts with a spa to doctor-led treatment centres. This guide helps you decide which kind you need and how to compare a wellness retreat near Pune on what matters.
First, decide what you want
A leisure retreat
Good for a break: nice rooms, a pool, a spa menu, some yoga, and food you choose. Ideal if you are healthy and want to rest.
A medical or therapeutic retreat
Run by doctors in naturopathy or Ayurveda. You have a consultation, then a prescribed plan of diet, therapies and yoga, with a fixed daily routine. Better if you want help with a health concern such as weight, digestion, joint pain, stress, sleep or blood sugar, or you want to build lasting habits.
Neither is better; they do different jobs.
Ten questions to ask any retreat
- Who plans my treatment, and what are their qualifications?
- Is there a consultation and examination before treatment?
- Which therapies are included in the daily price, and which are extra?
- Are meals prescribed or chosen from a menu?
- What does a typical day look like?
- Can I continue my current medicines?
- What is the minimum stay?
- What is the advance, cancellation and refund policy?
- Can a family member stay with me?
- Will I get a plan to follow at home?
Compare the full cost
Some places quote a low room rate and charge for each therapy. Others include room, meals, treatments and consultations in one daily tariff. Ask for the total for your stay, including any admission charge, medicines, lab tests and transport.
Location and getting there
Closer is not always better. A quiet place with hills, clean air and space to walk helps you switch off. Check the drive time from your home, the road and whether pick-up can be arranged.
